" This Old Highway's Gettin' Longer ... "

About a week before Ty got home my Mom and I drove my car across the country. It was sort of a miracle how much crap we were able to get in my tiny baby car. I kept thinking "how on Earth is this going to fit?" But some how each time I took something else out, a little spot opened up for it. (And each time we got out and looked back in we wondered where we had been sitting!) We decided to make a temple trip out of it, and stopped at four temples on the way from Salt Lake City to Virginia Beach.

It was so cool to stop at the Winter Quarters temple in Nebraska. There is so much history there. We walked through a pioneer cemetery where the saints were buried that died on their way to the Salt Lake Valley.

The sister missionary who gave us a tour of the visitor's center and took this picture was hilarious.

The Kansas City Temple is in the middle of NOWHERE all by itself ... oh and one house. But it's beautiful! I lost my Salt Lake Temple name tag here, and these kind folk were nice enough to hunt me down and mail it to me. Oh yeah, and driving into Kansas City we saw the most incredible lightning storm. It lasted for about an hour and a half, I've never seen anything like that.

On to St. Louis ... The Gateway to the West

I wonder if your're heading east if it's The Gateway to the East?

About an hour into our trip from St. Louis to Louisville, Ky. we realized there was time change and that we were going to miss the last session. Yeah, we're really smart. We were bummed, but decided to walk the grounds anyway and actually ran into someone from the Temple Presidency. He let us in and gave us a tour of the temple.

On our last leg of the trip, heading into Virginia the car started smoking. We were towed into a tiny town just east of Charleston, WV. We were way worried that no one would be open because it was Sunday. But thank Heaven for Bob's Garage. Good ole Bob. Weirdest little Po Dunk town ever. We kept saying "Where ARE we? WHEN are we?" And there was this sweet young kid working there, but bless his heart, I could not understand one word he said. This said boy did go on an hour field trip for us though hunting down a C Ring, which he eventually found on his brother-in-laws farm? UH, what? Anyway, thanks BOB for taking care of us. They were the "Earthly Angels" my sweet husband was praying would take care of us!
